Introducing Blazor Hybrid Workshop: Build Your First Blazor Hybrid App!

·3 mins

I’m excited to share something I’ve been working on: an official Blazor Hybrid workshop that’s now live and ready for you to dive into. Whether you’re just getting started with Blazor Hybrid or looking to teach others, this workshop has you covered.

You can jump right in by visiting aka.ms/blazor-hybrid-workshop.

Monkey Finder app running on iOS, Android, Windows, and macOS

What to expect from this workshop? #

In this workshop, you’ll be building a fun little app called Monkey Finder. The idea is simple: track down monkeys across the globe with your app. But as simple as it sounds, the process will introduce you to a ton of core concepts in Blazor Hybrid.

Here’s what you’ll be diving into:

  • Understanding the Blazor Hybrid project structure and the role of different files.
  • Loading and displaying data from an external source within the app.
  • Adding third-party libraries and creating reusable components.
  • Tapping into platform-specific features like connectivity checks, device location, and launching default apps.
  • Theming the app to shine in both light and dark modes.
  • Combining Blazor components with .NET MAUI native pages and controls.
  • And so much more!

The workshop is split into 6 parts, each one carefully crafted to guide you step-by-step. If you ever get stuck, no worries—each section comes with a starting point project so you can pick up right where you need to.

Already know your way around Blazor Hybrid? #

If you’re already familiar with Blazor Hybrid, this workshop could be a fantastic tool for teaching others. The repo has everything you need: code, slides, detailed instructions—it’s all there for you to use.

You can run through the workshop in about 4-6 hours, depending on your pace and style.

Blazor Hybrid and .NET MAUI: A Perfect Pair #

Since Blazor Hybrid is built on top of .NET MAUI, it’s also a great chance to show others what .NET MAUI is all about. You can teach this workshop as a standalone session or combine it with the .NET MAUI workshop for a deeper dive.

Both workshops follow a similar flow and even use the same Monkey Finder app as the project, making it easy to highlight the differences and similarities between building an app with native UI versus Blazor Hybrid.

Got Ideas to Expand the Workshop? #

I’d love to hear them! There’s a Community Modules section in the repository where you can contribute your own ideas. If you have something in mind, open an issue on the repo, and let’s chat.

Just a small request: if you contribute, please keep your modules up to date with the main workshop content.

Learn Blazor Hybrid with Me! #

I also recorded a 4-hour course on YouTube that walks you through everything in this workshop. If you prefer video content or want a companion to the written material, check it out.

And there’s a fun bonus too—I’ve partnered with Holopin to give you a digital badge when you complete the course. You can claim your badge and show it off!
